Crunchyroll to Stream Comic Girls Anime

Anime about manga creators living together premieres Thursday

Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it will stream the television anime of Kaori Hanzawa"s Comic Girls four-panel manga as it airs in Japan. The stream will debut on April 5 at 12:00 p.m. EDT and will be available for users worldwide except in Asia and German-speaking Europe.

The manga"s story centers on the 15-year-old high school student and manga creator Kaoruko Moeta, who uses the pen name Chaos. After ranking at the bottom of a reader survey, Kaoruko"s editor recommends that she enter an all-female dormitory for manga creators. Kaoruko"s roommates are shōjo manga creator Koyume Koizuka, teen romance manga creator Ruki Irokawa, and shōnen manga creator Tsubasa Katsuki. The girls support each other as they work to become better manga creators.

The show stars:

Yoshinobu Tokumoto (WATAMOTE, Chivalry of a Failed Knight episode director) is making his directorial debut at Nexus. Natsuko Takahashi (Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, Yuyushiki, Love and Lies) is in charge of the series scripts, while Touko Machida (Lucky Star, Tears to Tiara, Chaika the Coffin Princess), Michiko Yokote (Patlabor, Shirobako, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches), and Jukki Hanada (Love Live!, Sound! Euphonium, Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!) are penning the scripts. Keiko Saito is designing the characters. Kenichiro Suehiro (Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka) is composing the music, and Jin Aketagawa (Re:CREATORS, Under the Dog) is the sound director.

The manga debuted as a guest series in Houbunsha"s Manga Time Kirara Max magazine in 2014, and the series" regular serialization began later that year. Houbunsha released the manga"s fourth compiled book volume on March 27. The manga was a first-round candidate selected for last year"s Manga Taisho awards.
