Sentai Filmworks Grants "Scum"s Wish"

What You Need to Know:

  • Sentai Filmworks today announced it acquired exclusive distribution rights to the acclaimed anime series, Scum’s Wish, for home video and electronic sell-through in for USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

  • Adapted from the manga by Mengo Yokoyari, serialized in Square Enix"s Big Gangan, the 12-episode series’ striking visuals, courtesy of Lerche (Monster Musume, School-Live!), envelope the story of young lovers who each ache for the unattainable, unreciprocated love of another.

  • At first glance, high school sweethearts Hanabi Yasuraoka and Mugi Awaya appear to have the perfect relationship and while the two enjoy each other’s physical companionship, they are merely using each other to feel anything other than pain as both Hanabi and Mugi are in love with other people. As this tangled web of emotions continues to ensnare others, viewers are exposed to the painful side of love, making this series often difficult to watch yet impossible to look away.

Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu – 16

「死の罠の迷宮」 (Shi no Wana no Meikyuu)
“Death Trap Labyrinth”

There was a lot that happened in this episode, and even if the run-ins between characters were a bit haphazard, I loved how it allowed different combinations of different characters to flex their muscles in different ways. I did find myself thinking that, if there were all these powerful people, that it’d be nice if some of them helped fight the demons instead of playing into their hands, but I guess that’s too much to ask. Not like our own societies ever go all in until the danger is clear and present, and those times are generally referred to as world wars. Hopefully the Sins & co will take care of the Ten Commandments before it comes to that.

Elizabeth was the star of this episode to me. Many other characters would have been angsty about Diane not remembering them, but she was not. She’d had time to come to terms with it, granted, but even then she showed hella poise. She wasn’t trying to convince Diane, she wasn’t even especially trying to jog her memory. She was just stating the facts: She knows Diane. They are friends. She will assist her even if it’s scary. Where others would have been up their own butts or worrying beyond their ability to control events, Elizabeth was looking straight at Diane, keeping her centered in her attention, and treating her as they friend she is. Elizabeth is truly one of the good ones, though we already knew that.

Then there was Ban. I’m glad they tied a bow on the Zhivago thing by having Ban apologize to Meliodas, and I’m equally happy that Meliodas seemed like he wanted to blow it off. A heartfelt moment would have been cool, but that wouldn’t have been a Meliodas thing to do, at least not with Ban, and at least not in a somber way. The way Meliodas seems to want to brush past it shows both that he’s already forgiven Ban and that it wasn’t a big deal to him (or he’s going to act like it wasn’t), but what’s important is that Ban still said it, and Meliodas still heard. That will help deal the rift in their relationship, even if it was mainly in Ban’s mind.

I’m a little hype for this fighting festival to get going, because there is some power assembled here, and they ought to be enough to wipe the floor with two Commandments … is what I’d like to say, but I’m sure it won’t be that easy. It’ll definitely be fun to watch, though. It also holds the potential for more Ban x Elaine scenes, not to mention Diane x King scenes, and I need more of those in my life. Gowther better fix his fuck up soon so they can go back to the rabu-rabu, dammit!

Random thoughts:

  • Hawk, that’s … that’s horrifying. You’re a monster! At least Kirby just swallows them whole! Which is better?

  • The big one makes even Diane look small and cute. She’s always cute, but small is a new one in this form.

Uma Musume Pretty Derby – 07

Uma Musume Pretty Derby – 07

「約束」 (Yakusoku)
“Promise”

Of all the real world events they had to make sure was faithful to the girl’s respective racehorses, they had to adapt Silence Suzuka’s downfall. Suzuka’s performance in the Uma Musume version of the Tennoushou is similar to the real Suzuka’s race at the 1998 Tennoushou where the racehorse’s fatal injury was televised as he limped towards the finish line. After Suzuka was amping up her eventual turn towards international races, it felt like they were hinting that things wouldn’t go that smoothly, though if you looked up Suzuka’s bio, her encounter with Tennoushou in the anime would definitely be alarming enough to sound off the warning sirens that her dreams were meant to be cut short.

There is hope that the anime Suzuka will be able to recover at a quicker pace since Special Week’s encouragement is gearing up to be the motivation that Suzuka needs to recover at least some of the strength she had before the injury. That, and the real horse died some time after the race, so as long as anime Suzuka’s injuries are limited to just waiting until the leg recovers enough to get back in the ring like Grass Wonder, the writers of Uma Musume probably don’t have it in the books to make her injury even more tragic than it already is.

There is also a sense of optimism with the unity that is behind Suzuka as everyone from Team Spica and Rigel was horrified at Suzuka’s injury, going out of their way to send her flowers in the hospital. The winner’s circle for El Condor Pasa was solemn as she was fully aware that her victory came at such a steep price, and her passion for just being able to race with formidable opponents is a mindset that goes entirely against the idea of celebrating a win like this. I was more curious about what Hana’s feelings on the matter were like as she was formerly a pupil on Rigel, and probably feels personally responsible for Suzuka getting injured with Spica. The trainer didn’t answer his phone when she called, but it is something that will come into the fold when she sees Suzuka or the trainer next time.

Of the horse-girls that took Suzuka’s fall the hardest, however, Spe-chan’s friendship with Suzuka made it hard to watch her react to seeing her friend limping across the race track, and chase after her to make sure she didn’t fall to the ground. She was already trying to encourage her trainer to let her have another chance at a national derby after losing another time against Seiun Sky, but her priorities are shifted in a different direction now that the person she looked up to, idolized, and was close friends with has a career-damaging injury. Not just that, but because they both inspired each other to such a high degree, its even worse for Spe-chan to have heard every time Suzuka swore she would make it big on the international circuit only to see those dreams dashed. While Spe-chan’s eating habits had made her resort to eating her woes away, Suzuka’s injury will play a strong role in how Spe-chan shapes herself up to try and match the speed and caliber of her best friend who will have to put her ambitions overseas on-hold.

Digital Manga Merges eManga, Akadot Retail Websites

Company advises eManga customers to back up purchases

Digital Manga Inc. announced last week that it is merging its ebook retail website eManga with its physical book retail website Akadot. The eManga Twitter account announced on Monday that the new merged site will launch on Tuesday.

Digital Manga asked that customers back up their previous digital purchases because it "can not guarantee your account library will transfer." The company further announced via email newsletter that all titles listed as "streaming-only" will transfer to the new site, but will not be automatically added to user libraries.

eManga"s yaoi titles will move to the website for Digital Manga Inc."s yaoi imprint Juné, while its hentai titles will move to Digital Manga Inc."s Project Hentai website.

Akadot"s official Twitter announced in 2016 that it was moving to Juné. While the Akadot Twitter account stopped posting after this time, the website is still open with books listed for sale, and it shows a note that yaoi titles, specifically, have moved to Juné"s website.

Tobaku Haōden Zero Manga by Kaiji"s Fukumoto Gets Live-Action TV Show

Series stars Shigeaki Katō of NEWS idol group

A live-action television show based on Nobuyuki Fukumoto"s Tobaku Haōden Zero gambling manga has been green-lit. The series, titled Zero Ikkakusenkin Game (Zero: Get Rich Quick Game), will premiere in July on NTV and air on Sundays at 10:30 p.m.

Shigeaki Katō of the idol group NEWS will star in the drama. The other members of NEWS — Keiichirō Koyama, Takahisa Masuda, and Yūya Tegoshi — will play unspecified important roles in the series.

In the manga"s story, teenager "Zero" Ukai is a gambling genius who enters a trillion-yen (about US$12-billion) survival game. In the television show, Zero is a substitute teacher at a local cram school.

The manga launched in 2007, and took a two-and-a-half-year hiatus after finishing its first story arc. The manga resumed with the second part, Tobaku Haōden Zero Gyanki-hen, in 2011. Kodansha published the first part in eight compiled volumes and the second part in 10 compiled volumes.

Fukumoto is best known for his long-running Kaiji gambling manga, which inspired two television anime series, two live-action films, a reality show, and a VR game. The spinoff manga Chūkan Kanriroku Tonegawa is inspiring its own anime that will premiere in July.

Fukumoto also drew the mahjong manga Akagi, which ended in February after 27 years. Akagi inspired a television anime and a live-action series. A new three-episode mini-series will premiere on May 25.

Human civilization is on its last dying breath and it"s up to you, the leader of the last city on Earth, to ensure the survival of the species. The coldest winter has stripped your people of everything but the last shreds of their humanity. You must cultivate trust, purpose, civility, and, above all else, hope. Hope is what will keep people warm when the fires have burnt out and their hands are shivering in the dark. Hope is what fills their dreams when they go to bed on empty stomachs. Without it, all is lost and there will be no one left to even record that there was once lived a society that prospered under the warm rays of the sun. You may not feel like a hero. But, you"ll have to make the citizens believe that you can do the impossible if you are to survive. This is the world of Frostpunk.

Frostpunk is a strategy, simulation game deeply grounded in humanity. 11 bit studios, the creators of This War of Mine, Anomaly, and other indie favorites brings to you this chilling survival game of choices, consequences, and humanity"s enduring fight against the cold. Even though this Polish video game studio has only been around eight years, they"ve managed to find success after success. This World of Mine was their biggest title to date.

In this frozen world, you"ll need to establish an infrastructure and restore order to the people if you"re ever going to get them t cooperate with your plans for survival. Steam-powered machines, a coal-fueled generator, and remnants of old automated machines are the only technology available to your people. These few tools coupled with resource management are how you"ll create warmth, food, and shelter for all.

Expect to create laws that the people will struggle to accept. Expect to seriously consider whether children should join the workforce. Perhaps killing off a tenth of the population is better than having amputees with no treatment suffering in the medical posts. Every choice you make has consequences for the few survivors that remain. There"s never a "right" choice. There"s only survival or death. You must find the fortitude to lead the people into a better future. Not everyone can handle that burden. But, If you"re up to the challenge, then Frostpunk is waiting for you.

FROSTPUNK | Debut Gameplay Trailer - “Heartbeats”

Nobody truly understands what caused this drastic change in climate. Scientists believe that perhaps the eruptions of Mount Tambora and Krakatoa played a role it. However, those alone could not have caused such a shift in weather. With no clear choice, the last survivors of this deathly cold decided to leave England and head north. Crossing an icy sea and enduring bone-chilling winds, they eventually made it to a crater-like area with a coal-burning generator. They knew that this was the only place where they stood a chance of survival.

However, not everyone successfully arrived at the bastion of hope. Many people died along the way. Still others were separated from the main expedition in the blinding blizzard. Not only is it up to you, the leader, to ensure the survival of the those following you. You also must send out scouts and search for any survivors that you can possibly save. Fight the cold, fire up the generator, and rebuild society from the ground up. You"re the only one who can.

The first thing that you"ll notice when firing up Frostpunk is that this game does its damnedest to show a very grounded narrative filled with difficult choices and sacrifices. From the opening sequence to short cutscenes throughout major accomplishments and discoveries, all the way to the very end of the game you feel immersed and totally engaged with the survivors. We are blown away by how much emotion and sense of gravity were injected into this game. Even though this game is a survival simulator at its core, it never loses focus on the true essence that ties everything together, the people.

We prefer to break down this game into four different sections that are easy to digest. First off, there"s the overview of the last city. This is where you gander at all of your buildings, citizens, resources, weather, people"s concerns, and other notable interactions. Make use of the thermal view of the town as well. Heat signatures are invaluable information that will show you the buildings that need more heat. On the flip side, you might discover that recent improvements in heating may allow you to cut back on coal consumption from the central generator. Keep a close eye on the town when temperatures drop drastically for days at a time. You"ll know when this change in weather is coming if you keep an eye on the gauge that shows the date and weather forecast. This main screen is where you"re going to spend most of your time because it contains the most information and has the most features for you to monitor. Get familiar and comfortable with it.

Second, there"s The Book of Laws. There"s a myriad of options on this screen that dictate how you"ll handle societal needs and workforce decisions. For instance, you can choose to construct a cemetery for the fallen citizens. This will raise hope since people can bury their loved ones with a proper funeral and farewell. However, this means that people will periodically be away from work for several hours while they mourn the loss of family or a loved one. Another option is offering to extend the workday by a few hours, or even forcing people to work a 24-hour shift in drastic circumstances (and these will invariably arise). Of course, some people will hate you for forcing them to work in the cold even longer and adding additional stress to their already depressing life. But, if it means they"ll have a warm place to sleep or food to eat for the new few days... it could be a worthwhile tradeoff. The Book of Laws is deep in its complexity and expansive in its branching structure. Read everything carefully before implementing a new law.

Third, there"s the Technology Tree. This is the menu where you"ll decide what your engineers are going to research or develop to ensure your people survive. This menu is further broken down into four tabs: heating; exploration & industry; resources; and food, health & shelter. This is where you"ll discover more efficient methods for resource harvesting, heating the buildings throughout your city, basic needs for the people, and creating scouting parties to find missing people from the original expedition. There are different tiers of the Technology Tree. They unlock once you"ve completed researched all aspects of the previous tier. This is the second most important menu in the game, after the overworld view of the Last City.

Fourth, is what we refer to as the "Exploration" screen. It doesn"t have a proper name, but this is where you"ll see an overview of the area outside of the city. You"ll be given access to this menu once you"ve researched and constructed the Beacon. From this screen you can send scout teams to scour the area for remnants of towns, rescue people who are freezing in inadequate shelters, retrieve resources for your consumption, and possibly recover technology that was thought to have been lost to humanity. Figuring out how to best make use of the path your scouts take is very important. You don"t want them to constantly return to the town when they pick up resources because that impedes on their ability to discover even greater riches. But, if they"re away too long your town may suffer from not having enough people in the workforce or enough coal to keep the generator alive. Trial and error are how we learn, but there are definitely more proficient means that you should use.

A lot of the fun, for us anyways, of simulation games, is learning how to master features of the game through experience. We don"t want to take that away from you, but we would like to offer a bit of advice that helped us out. Resource management and advancing your current technology are key, as in all strategy/simulation games. But, the most important thing to keep in mind is that the people you"re in charge of are your greatest resource. Everyone is susceptible to illness if they are forced to work in cold factories, but they"ll also get sick if you force them to work too many hours. Make sure that all of the different houses and workplaces are warm enough so that your employees/citizens do not get ill. Because as soon as they start getting sick your economy stagnates, resources deplete, hope falls, and it’s almost irreversible.

You definitely need to build multiple workshops as soon as possible. Workshops are where your engineers spend their entire workday researching more efficient production methods and constructing devices that will allow you to harvest the resources surrounding the central generator. It"s important that you get ahead of the current needs of your people. Develop efficient methods for collecting resources, and you"ll never bottleneck your production. The worst that could happen is that you run out of coal for the generator, or run out of food to feed everyone. Don"t let that happen! Invest in workshops early and they"ll pay themselves in a matter of days (in game time).

You also need to have your beacon set up so that you can make a scout team as soon as possible. The scout team allows you to pick up resources from outside of your current city. You also gain access to more citizens to do their share of the work plus an "automaton" that can do the work of an entire workforce. For instance, you could have 15 people working in coal thumper producing a set amount of coal per day. Or you can replace all fifteen employees with one automaton that does about the same amount of work, takes 2 breaks per day, and works 24 hours. These things are godsends that should be taken advantage of immediately upon discovery.

The game is one of the most enjoyable simulation/strategy games that we"ve ever played. The mechanics of the game are simple, the artwork of the game is beautiful, the sounds, voice-overs, and music are gripping, and there’s actually a story tied to the whole survival element of this game. Where other simulation games are tedious or frustrating, Frostpunk"s gameplay is seamless, engrossing, addictive, and refreshing. We didn"t even mention the fact that there are several unlockable story arcs. You gain access to these if you survive a certain amount of days in the Last City. While they"re not full-blown stories that are completely different from the struggles of the Last City, it"s nice to see that 11 bit studios put some effort towards creating an experience of establishing a civilization that"s slightly different each playthrough.

We"re not the only ones that love this game, either. A few days after this game"s official release, 11 bit studios tweeted this out, "#Frostpunk sold 250k units in the first 66 hours!" It"s awesome to see that an indie studio is receiving recognition for their hard work and the most enjoyable game that they"ve released thus far.

We stand by our statement that this is the most enjoyable simulation/strategy game that we"ve reviewed on this site. Replayability is high, so we"ll be coming back to this game for weeks to come. We look forward to the expansions that 11 bit studios promised as well. Frostpunk wholeheartedly deserves all the praise it"s been receiving. We cannot recommend this enough to fans of the strategy/simulation genre. You"ve got to try this!

Let us know what you think of this game in the comments below or tweet at us @honeysanimeEN. As always, we appreciate you taking the time to read our thoughts on this game. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
